Welcome to our Houston, TX dental blog! We are happy that you stopped by our online home today.
At Antoine Dental Center we strive to meet your family’s ever-evolving dentistry-related needs. But you have to come see us regularly for us to be able to do much good. And with spring, the great season of renewal, already upon us, now would be a great time to schedule your next appointment and let us get you back on-track.
Speaking of appointments, has it been awhile since you last darkened the doors of our office on Burress Street? Have you just been too busy? Or is there more to it than that? Are you perhaps paralyzed by fear when it comes to dentists. It’s alright, we won’t take it personally, but we will take it seriously. You see, there are many folks all over the country who suffer from a very real condition known as dental anxiety. It will create obstacles between you and your oral health, and that won’t be good for anyone. It is always better to confront the reality of the situation and deal with it head on.
Your Health Is Too Important To Ignore
So, how did you arrive at such a state? Some patients tell us that they have had legitimately bad experiences with doctors and dentists in the past, while others simply don’t like the idea of getting shots or the ominous sound of drills.
There is some good news for you.
By avoiding the dentist, and neglecting your oral health needs, you don’t have to relive any disturbing memories or handle whatever issues that may be currently unfolding in your mouth.
The bad news is that these issues always catch up with you in the end.
When this happens, you are usually in a much worse predicament than you would have been if you had just worked through your fears and let Antoine Dental Center keep you on the good road.
Ditching The Dentist Is A Bad Idea
Here’s the thing: By not going to the dentist every 3-6 months, you won’t be receiving the professional cleanings that effectively keep plaque and tartar from creating unhealthy situations.
You also will never be made aware of any decay or gum disease that can be easily filled or fixed early on. Plus, you won’t be getting looked over for oral cancer and other potentially serious problems. Basically, your fear of the dentist is creating a situation that may give you satisfaction in the short run but is not sustainable over time.
We Can Help Alleviate Dental Anxiety
You can trust that Antoine Dental Center is on your side in the fight against cavities, gum disease, and worse situations. Yet, if you are afraid to show your face in our office, we can’t possibly help protect you in a meaningful way.
That said, we do understand that your fear and anxiety is real, and we don’t take it lightly. That is why we make preventative maintenance and all of our other dental treatments easy and comfortable with compassionate care and by offering sedation dentistry options.
A Pleasant Dental Experience Awaits
Our team totally grasps that it takes a lot of courage to pick up the phone and make that appointment. This is an even more courageous act if you have been away for a while or suspect that you have major dental issues to resolve. But if you give us a chance, we will literally put your fears to rest. And there won’t be any lectures to make you feel worse about yourself.
We offer many amenities to help you feel like you’re at home, not at the dentist. FOr instance, you can sip on some coffee, water, or soda when you come in. You can also request a blanket and pillow if you feel uncomfortable or get chilly in the office. Many of our patients love listening to their favorite music to relax, while others look forward to watching TV to pass the time away. And we can go further to put you at ease, if need be.
Sedation Dentistry At Antoine Dental Center
So, what’s the deal with dental sedation? Sedation dentistry refers to the use of sedatives to relax you for your dental procedure.
You can count on this service whenever you need to undergo an invasive procedure or deal with your dental fear. There are three types of sedation offering different levels of relaxation:
Oral Sedation: If your treatment is non-invasive and you only have mild dental fear, you may settle for an orally administered form of sedation. Our dentist will give you a pill that you have to take prior to your operation. In spite of the simplicity of the process, however, oral sedatives are still powerful.
Inhalation Sedation: This type of sedation is the most frequently used of the three. It involves the use of nitrous oxide or ‘laughing gas’ to normalize your bodily functions and relax you for the dental treatment. In most cases, you will fall asleep. You may even forget what has happened during the procedure.
Intravenous Sedation: (IV) If your treatment is invasive or you have severe dental fear, you may count on this intravenous sedation to make things easier for you. This form of sedation is administered by injecting the sedative into your bloodstream. The result is immediate and you may relax almost instantly.
