You chipped your tooth last week. At first, you thought you could live with it, but now, you aren’t so sure.
The longer you’ve had the chip, the more self-conscious you have become about your smile. You can tell that some of your co-workers are amused by your description of the accident, but they are just as amused by the new look of your teeth.
You feel like you’ve lost some of their respect, and your boss seems hesitant to have you meet with clients and customers face-to-face.
You’d like to get a dental crown, but with the way things are going at work, you don’t want to schedule two separate appointments to get one.
If you are a patient at Antoine Dental Center, you can get everything done in one appointment. Our dentists offer CEREC same-day crowns for our patients in and around Houston because we value your teeth and your time.
Reasons You May Want A Crown
Crowns do two things for you. First, they give you the look of a full set of healthy natural teeth. Second, they allow you to bite and chew the foods that you enjoy just like your real teeth did.
Patients get dental crowns for a number of reasons. Here are some of the most common reasons:
➤ Broken Or Chipped Tooth — The person in our introduction was involved in an accident. It may have been an elbow to the mouth or a missed pass in a game of basketball. It may have happened while he or she was working on a home improvement project. It could be because of a slip and fall.
Whatever the reason, a chipped or broken tooth can affect your self-esteem and your ability to bite or chew certain foods. You may not realize it, but your chipped tooth may be more vulnerable to tooth decay as well. A dental crown can solve all those issues at the same time.
➤ Decayed Tooth — Tooth decay often develops as a result of poor oral hygiene, but as we noted in our previous example, it’s not the only reason.
Decay can affect your teeth in a couple ways, and none of them are good. By removing the decay and replacing it with a dental crown, you will help preserve the healthy parts of your teeth.
➤ Discolored Tooth — Tooth decay can cause your teeth to become discolored, but it’s not the only thing. How you eat or drink could cause a particular tooth to stain faster than others. If you smoke, chew, or dip and tend to the same part of your mouth, that too can cause a particular tooth or teeth to stain faster than others.
In any case, an ugly tooth stands out for the all the wrong reasons.
➤ Weak Tooth — Decay or trauma can damage the structure of your teeth. Even if you can’t see it, you may be able to feel it if you try to bite or chew with a tooth that has been damaged.
This tooth may be more sensitive to hot or cold, and it may hurt when you put pressure on it such as when you bite down on something. A dental crown can take away that pain.
The CEREC Crown Difference
Any dental crown will fix the problems described above. The difference between getting a crown at another dentist office and getting a CEREC crown at Antoine Dental Center is time.
The process will be similar at either place. A dentist will examine your tooth to determine if a crown would help. If it will, then the dentist will remove the decayed or damaged part of your tooth.
In doing this, the dentist will reshape your tooth into an abutment. This is where your dental crown will be bonded to your tooth.
At other dentist’s offices, they will send the order for your crown to a laboratory. While you wait, the dentist will place a temporary crown on your tooth. A few weeks later, your crown will come in, and you’ll need to make a second appointment to have your crown bonded to your tooth.
At Antoine Dental Center, you won’t have to fool with a temporary crown and you won’t have to wait weeks between appointments. CEREC crowns are made while you wait. (CEREC is short for CEramic REConstruction, in case you were wondering.)
Using CAD/CAM technology, we will make a digital impression of your tooth. This will provide a template for your dental crown. Our in-house milling machine will use that information to make a CEREC crown that looks and feels like one of your natural teeth.
That same day, during that same visit, one of our dentists will bond your dental crown to your tooth. No need to wait for weeks and no extra appointments needed.
Get Your Smile Back
Your finished dental crown will look just like one of your natural teeth. Only people who know about your accident may realize it’s not your natural tooth.
